Spooky Vibes

It’s that time of year again in Iowa. The leaves are turning brilliant colors and my heater is warming up once more.

I’ve been tossing around the idea of writing a psychological thriller/horror novella or full length novel. The idea actually came from my 9-year-old daughter. She’s recently become interested in spooky/scary YA books and I wondered if I had it in me to do something along those lines. I’ve seen my fair share of homicide photos in the workplace since my firm has represented alleged murderers and my mind constantly wonders what went on during those acts.

I haven’t nailed down exactly what kind of thriller to pen, but I’m leaning toward a serial killer type. That of course means I need to read a few more in that genre to see if it’s my speed. If you have any you’d recommend, let me know. Brownie points if they’re indie books.

Why now? Great question. I don’t know if I have the answer other than it feels like the time to explore the spooky side of storytelling. I usually don’t like horror films etc. because I hate not knowing what’s going to happen. In writing the story, I think I’ll enjoy controlling the situation more.

Halloween has always been taboo for me, growing up religious, so I’d love to incorporate the holiday. Plus, who doesn’t like a little murder?

As per usual, I’ll be sure to keep you all informed of my status and story.
